While using the rule of thirds you create nine parts, three lines running each way which are divided evenly. These points meet in four places towards the center of the image. This grid that is created allows you to differentiate an ordinary photo from a well planned out one.
3. Why does placing the subject at the intersection or along a line feel more natural to the viewer?
The theory is that if you place points of interest in the intersections or along the lines that your photo becomes more balanced and will enable a viewer of the image to interact with it more naturally.
